Inclement Weather, Beer Tickets Refund…
Due to inclement weather on Saturday, September 11, 2010 it was necessary for us to close the beer vending an hour and forty-five minutes earlier than planned. For patrons who have remaining beer tickets, we are able to provide 2 options: we will honor all beer tickets at the 2011 Festival or you may return up to six tickets to the Carnegie Borough Building to receive a full refund.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please believe us, no one wanted the night to continue more than we did. Thanks for your continued patronage, we’ll see you in September 2011.
A Great Thursday Night
That’s what everyone said last night as the first evening of the 23rd Carnegie Arts & Heritage Festival drew to a close.
We had more visitors than anyone has seen on a Thursday night in years, sales were good for food and art vendors and the musicians had good crowds to listen.
And best of all THE WEATHER WAS GORGEOUS!!!
It’s supposed to be GORGEOUS all through the festival, pleasant sunny days and cool nights—bring a jacket for after dark.
We’re looking forward to a good day and night today! Tonight’s headliner is Bill Toms and Hard Rain at 10:30 p.m.
Saturday night is Jill West and the Blues Attack at 9:00 p.m. and Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers at 10:30 p.m.
Don’t forget, Saturday features the second annual Battle of the Bands! Last year’s winner, Jimbo and the Soupbones, plays at 9:00 p.m.
Festival hours are:
- Friday 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Saturday noon to midnight

For Permit Parking Lease Holders, Business Owners and Residents
The annual Arts and Heritage/Music Festival will be held on September 9, 10 and 11 2010. This year, Festival activities will take place on East Main Street, between Washington Avenue and Elk Avenue. To accommodate stages, tents and booths in the affected area, it will be necessary to implement the following parking/traffic restrictions:
The Carnegie Police Department appreciates your cooperation and understanding with these restrictions during the Festival. Normal parking and traffic patterns will resume on Monday September 13, 2010.
* Permit Parking Lease Holders should contact Darlene at (412) 276-4245 for instructions on alternate parking.
For more information on parking, including a map of the festival, please visit our Maps page.
Food vendor applications now available for A&H 2010
For some people who frequent festivals, it’s all about the food and our Food Court features everything from snacks to full meals representing over a half-dozen nationalities.
In past years we’ve had Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church and Carnegie United Methodist Church with homemade ethnic specialties including pierogies, halushka, stuffed cabbage and kielbasa.
The Food Court also featured three of Carnegie’s restaurants: Duran’s, Babyface’s Carnegie Grill and Barb’s Country Junction with specials that folks who frequent their restaurants will recognize. Mr. Ribs and Sarge’s Ribs usually join us, and other local eateries which festival-goers might find familiar include Niko’s Coffee Shop, Philly Pretzel Factory and Tambellini Catering also made an appearance.

Battle of the Bands 2010!
Get ready for the Carnegie Arts and Heritage Festival Battle of the Bands 2010!
Saturday, September 11 from noon – 4:00 p.m.
Are you an aspiring unsigned band looking to break into the local music scene in a big way?
Then we want you to rock the 2010 Carnegie Arts and Heritage Festival’s Battle of the Bands!
This year’s Battle is set for Saturday, September 11 from noon – 4:00 p.m. on East Main Street in Carnegie.
We’re looking for five local bands to compete in this year’s Battle of the Bands for prizes of $1,000 and an official gig in next year’s festival.
To enter the Battle of the Bands, bands must:
- complete a short informational profile
- submit a demo of your music
We’re looking for unique bands with a good sound that fits our family friendly festival (a big following helps), and your line-up has to be original songs (only 2 covers allowed).
Once submitted, our committee will choose the top five bands to perform at the festival. Each band will have a 30- to 45-minute set to play, and at least four judges will watch and critique every performance. We have some exciting judges lined up, including several well-known Pittsburghers. A People’s Choice Award will allow listeners to vote for their favorites, and will also be factored into the band’s score.
Are you ready to rock and make it big like last year’s winner, Jimbo and the Soupbones, who have gone on to record their own album? Click here to see the official entry rules and how to submit, or contact the Battle of the Bands organizer Nick Kratsas at battleofthebands@carnegieartsandheritage.com. Entries must be received by July 14, 2010.
Who won last year?
Jimbo and the Soupbones!
They’ve won a $1,000 cash prize plus a definite spot in next year’s festival. They were not only the favorite of the judges, but won the people’s choice ballot, too!
What the judges had to say:
“Compelling, Captivating Lyrics”
“Jimbo commanded the stage, he can’t help but to own the crowd”
“Warm, sweet delivery”
People also enjoyed:
The Incline
Jamie Bruno
The Jovian Sequence
AE Honick & The Soul Shakedown
Thanks so much to everyone who performed for making this new feature of our festival such a great event.
And to our judges—Shelly Duffy – STAR 100.7, Carol Lee Espy – Musician and Music Journalist, Kelly Pidjen – KDKA Radio Creative Director and Emcee Nick Kratsas – KDKA Radio Producer.
Thanks also to those who applied—we had many great applicants!
